Abstract:

Introduction: The relationship between biomechanical parameters and different types of posture problems in association with running is unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the excursion changes at the hip, knee, and ankle joints during running in the patients with flat foot. Methods: The participants comprised 12 healthy men and 12 others suffering from flat feet disorder. They were divided into two experimental and control groups based on the normalized criterion of navicular. Motion excursions during the stance phase of running were calculated for all three planes of motion at the hip, knee, and ankle joints. A Vicon (200 Hz) motion analysis system with four T-Series cameras were used to measure parameters by Vicon Nexus 1.8.5, Polygon 4.1.2 software. Data were analyzed using SPSS24, and Independent sample t-test test. Results: There were no significant differences in all excursions of lower limb joints between the healthy and flat foot groups (P>0.05). There were significant differences observed between the healthy and flat foot groups in the dorsiflexion of the ankle (P=0.00), ankle plantarflexion (P=0. 00), hip flexion (P=0.000), hip extension (P=0.002), and knee flexion (P=0.000). Conclusion: The results showed that some observed changes in excursion parameters are due to the effects of compensatory mechanisms, and some might be considered as pathologic characteristics of the flat foot. Also, flat foot had strong effects on other joints.

The Effect of Knee Osteoarthritis on Excursions of Lower Limb Joints During Gait

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate excursion changes at the hip, knee, and ankle joints during gait in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) of varying severity. Methods: The method of research was causal-comparative (Ex Post Facto). A Vicon motion analysis system with 4 T-Series cameras was used to measure the kinematics variables. Fifteen normal subjects without KOA and thirty patien...

A Kinetic Based Analysis of the Lower Limb’ Joints with Increasing Running Speed

Purpose: Due to the paucity of the information regarding the lower limb biomechanics in slow speeds running as well as  concentration of the majority of previous studies in a single movement plane, aim of the present study was investigation on a kinetic based analysis of lower limb’ joints with increasing running speed. Methods: 28 runners asked to stay on the belt speed of treadmill that was ...

The Effects of Increasing Running Speed on Three-Dimensional Peak Angle of the Lower Limb Joints in Stance Phase

Objective: Attention can be paid to the biomechanical characteristics of running since the speed of running varies. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of increasing running speed on the three-dimensional kinematics of the lower limb’ joints in the stance phase. Methods: The research was quasi-experimental. 27 volunteer subjects ran on a treadmill and the kinematic and ...

Effect of Foot Orthoses on the Timing of Lower Limb Muscles Activity during Walking in Older Adults

Introduction: As a person gets older, their gait patterns change and their ability to walk decreases. Orthoses are used to relieve musculoskeletal disorders, skeletal problems, disabilities, etc. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of orthoses on timing of lower limb muscles in the older adults during gait. Methods: The present study was a clinical trial. 14 females ...
